START Hack 2025: Taking the Helbling Voice Assistant to the next level

At START Hack 2025, we posed an ambitious challenge: help us take the Helbling Voice Assistant to the next level. In just 36 hours, 19 teams dove into coding, designing, and problem-solving - all with one shared mission: to refine a voice assistant that can handle real-world environments, from noisy hotel lobbies to bustling offices.

The results? Nothing short of inspiring.

Real Engineering, Real Impact

“We picked Helbling because it felt like one of the most technical and ambitious cases. It required real engineering thinking and problem-solving under pressure – exactly what we were looking for.”

– Rodrigo Tari, Hackcelerate

The Helbling Voice Assistant challenge was far more than just a theoretical exercise. Teams tackled real-world problems such as background noise, accurately detecting user intent, and ensuring smooth voice interactions. In the end, the creativity and depth of the solutions were truly impressive. Even better, the Helbling Voice Assistant made significant progress and is now drawing interest from industries where dependable, hands-free communication is essential.

A Big Win for Hackcelerate
Their solution stood out for its impressive ability to deliver clear, noise-resilient voice interactions with minimal latency. Even more remarkable, their fully local and innovative approach shows strong potential for real-world scalability.

We see exciting opportunities for applying this technology in sectors like hospitality and healthcare, where fast, hands-free communication can make a meaningful difference.

Looking Ahead
The success of START Hack 2025 showcases Helbling’s commitment to pushing technological boundaries - and we’re not stopping here. Team Insights and Impressions

Interview with Lilia Gerber

Why did you choose Case Helbling?

Because it was real. The challenge was grounded in an everyday problem we’ve all experienced: voice assistants that struggle in noisy settings. We weren’t just hacking for fun; we were building something people genuinely need.

What was the most exciting part?

Seeing our solution, TrueVoice, actually work after 36 hours of sweat, code, and very little sleep - proving that the idea held up in a real-world setting.

How well did you feel supported by Helbling?

Brilliantly. It was more of a collaboration than just handing over a problem. They provided expertise and guidance exactly when we needed it.

Would you recommend Helbling to future hackathon participants?

Definitely. Helbling offers a well-scoped challenge while still giving you the freedom to get creative. It’s structure without limits.
